Sustainability in Architecture 3.0: Making use of what's already existing.

Following our enlightening discussion on the Japanese ways of building consciously. I wanted to expand on the ways 'the western society' can improve their own consciousness in construction by making people aware of the already existing properties we can possibly renovate and re-invent for repurposing.


I bet the majority of you are probably thinking but isn't constantly reusing buildings already created pulling us backwards in the growth of architecture? To some extent, one can say yes, but at the same time. reusing a building that already exists doesn't prevent you from expanding your growth as an architect.


Well have a read of this article by Archdaily (2020):


As you can see, If anything it makes you more creative in my eyes as you're able to incorporate a set of ideas and theories into a whole different building with whole different influence in genre, period and purpose. Isn't that interesting and just as impressive?


For this reason, I came across this documentary that I think encapsulates the benefits of repurposing historic structures for modern usage and the impact it has on the community:

Is the process of repurposing buildings that have outlived their original purposes for different uses or functions while at the same time retaining their historic features.
